Question:Do you have information on how to find school ID codes?

Response:

NCES developed online tools called the Public School Locator and the Private School Locator to enable school officials and others to obtain the correct name, address, phone number, NCES ID number, and other characteristics of a public school or school district when the requestor only has limited information. The Public School Locator currently contains information as reported to NCES by state education agency officials in each state for school years 201718 and 201819, and the Private School Locator is current as of 201718. Whether or not a school has an entry in NCES’ databases or an NCES ID number does not reflect that school’s current accreditation status.

To retrieve information on public school districts, please visit the Public School District Locator.

NCES school ID codes have a variety of uses, including information for the Rural Educational Achievement Program , Safe Schools/Healthy Students, National Board of Professional Teaching Standards , and E-Rate applications.

Missing Towns Or Cities

If you are having difficulty finding schools in a particular city, try using the postal code search function instead.

The town or city search menu includes only official municipalities. Many smaller towns and cities have been amalgamated into larger municipalities. Some schools may have submitted their address information using their former town or city name.

Information From Statistics Canada

We use student postal codes to cross-reference income and parental education data.

School District Income Tax

The Ohio school district income tax generates revenue to support school districts who levy the tax. This tax is in addition to and separate from any federal, state, and city income or property taxes. Ohio school districts may enact a school district income tax with voter approval. As of January 2022, 210 school districts impose an income tax.

The Department of Taxation collects and administers the tax on behalf of the school districts. School district income tax returns are subject to the same filing, amending, payment, extension, and refund requirements and procedures as Ohios individual income tax return. The Department offers free options to file and pay electronically.

Any individual or estate that receives income while a resident of a taxing schooldistrict is subject to school district income tax. To determine your school district and its tax rate, enter your home address into The Finder:

To have school district income tax withheld from your pay, submit an IT 4 with the school district name and number to your employer. Please note, your school district withholding is not the same as your city income tax withholding. To locate your school district withholding, see the sample W-2.

Proweb: How To Enter Ohio School District Codes

Ohio residents living within a taxing school district during any portion of the year are subject to Ohio’s school district income tax. An individual must file the Ohio School District Income Tax Return if all of the following are true:

  • They lived in a school district with an income tax for any portion of the tax year
  • They received income while living in the district and,
  • They have a school district income tax liability based on that income.

The Ohio Department of Taxation recommends filing Form SD 100 even if no tax liability calculates “to avoid delinquency billings”.

The school district is typically indicated in the state locality section of the taxpayer’s W-2, but it occasionally appears in Box 14 as four digits preceded by the letters “SD”. If you don’t know the school district code, you can find it in the Ohio individual income tax return instructions as well as online using the Ohio DOT’s tool calledThe Finder.

Note: Ohio locality and school district information may be printed on the physical W-2 in a variety of ways, but the Ohio e-file rules are strict as to how this information should be entered in both the federal and state tax returns, so to avoid an e-file reject the Ohio locality and school district information must be correctly entered in the W-2 menu in TaxSlayer ProWeb. The school district code must also be entered in the heading of the Ohio return.
