Form 1098-T is an information return. The IRS requires businesses that make reportable transactions to file information returns to the IRS and provide a copy to the other party involved in the transaction. There are several reasons why form 1098-T may not be available online through Heartland ECSI.
If the University has not received your SSN or ITIN, or it students do not input the correct local zip code as shown on the student’s WMU account as of January 18, 2019, online access will be denied. A paper copy of your form will be sent by mail to your local address of record. If there is no local address of record, the system will default to your permanent address on record. WMU does not release a 1098-T without a valid address for the student.

What Has Changed On The 1098
In January of each year, Georgia Tech prepares IRS form 1098-T for eligible students reflecting amounts associated with tuition and financial aid for the prior calendar year as outlined in the IRS regulations.
In previous years, the 1098-T sent provided a figure in Box 2 of the form that represented the qualified tuition and related expenses that were BILLED to the students account for the calendar year. Due to a change to institutional reporting requirements mandated by federal law, beginning with tax year 2018, the amount of QTRE PAID during the calendar year will be reported in Box 1.
Please note that all payments received at the Bursars Office by December 31, 2021, will be posted to your student account.
