Where To Mail Your Personal Tax Return
The IRS has more addresses than you might imagine because its processing centers are located all around the country. The address you’ll use depends on what you’re mailing and where you live. Go to the Where to File page on the IRS website if you’re sending a personal tax return, an amended return, or if you’re asking for an extension of time to file. The page includes links for every state.;
Note that the mailing address is usually different if you’re submitting a payment with your return. Youll typically mail returns withpayments to the IRS, and returns without payments to the Department of the Treasury.
IRS addresses do change periodically, so dont automaticallysend your latest tax return to the same place you sent it in previous years.
Note that the IRS uses ZIP codes to help sort incoming mail. To make sure your return gets to the right place as quickly as possible, include the last four digits after the five-digit zip code. For example, if delivering a Form 1040 in 2021 with payment from California, the correct address is:

Irs Postpones 2021 Tax Deadline From April 15 To May 17
For the 2021 tax year, the IRS has postponed the regular April 15th deadline to May 17th to give Americans more time to prepare and file during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
The extension also gives taxpayers the chance to incorporate changes from the American Rescue Plan Act, which was passed in the middle of tax season.;This year, its especially important for expats to get their US taxes done correctly because its the only way to reclaim stimulus checks that you were eligible for but didnt receive.
This extension is automatic. You do not need to file any additional forms or call the IRS to request it.
Despite the date change, the IRS is still urging Americans to file as soon as they are able. In particular, if youre owed a refund or youre entitled to stimulus payments, you should file electronically with direct deposit to get these funds as quickly as possible.
The IRS has not issued any statements regarding the June 15, 2021 tax filling deadline for Americans living abroad. If you intended to file by this deadline, you should still make plans to complete your return by this dateor sooner if possible.
In addition, quarterly estimated payments are still due on April 15, 2021.

Filing Your Income Tax Return
Annually, you need to complete the;T1 General Income Tax and Benefit Return;as well as associated territorial or provincial forms. Why Would Your Refund Come By Snail Mail
There are a couple of reasons that your refund would be mailed to you. Your money can only be electronically deposited into a bank account with your name, your spouse’s name or a joint account. If that’s not the reason, you may be getting multiple refund checks, and the IRS can only direct-deposit up to three refunds to one account. Additional refunds must be mailed. Also, your bank may reject the deposit and this would be the IRS’ next best way to refund your money quickly.;
It’s also important to note that for refunds, direct deposit isn’t always automatic. Some are noticing that like the stimulus checks, the first two payments for the child tax credit were mailed. Just in case, parents should sign in to the IRS portal;to check that the agency has their correct banking information. If not, parents can add it for the next payment in September.
What Does A ‘math Error’ Notice From The Irs Mean
Millions of Americans have received confusing “math-error notices” from the IRS this year — letters saying they owe more taxes. Once they get the notice, they have a 60-day window to respond before it goes to the agency’s collection unit.;
From the start of the year to August, the IRS sent more than 11 million of these notices. According to the Taxpayer Advocate Service, “Many math error notices are vague and do not adequately explain the urgency the situation demands.” Additionally, sometimes the notices “don’t even specify the exact error that was corrected, but rather provide a series of possible errors that may have been addressed by the IRS.”;
The majority of the errors this year are related to stimulus payments, according to the Wall Street Journal. They could also be related to a tax adjustment for a variety of issues detected by the IRS during processing. They can result in tax due, or a change in the amount of the refund — either more or less. If you disagree with the amount, you can try contacting the IRS to review your account with a representative.

New Tax Rules For The Foreign Earned Income Exclusion During The Covid
As Coronavirus safety concerns and travel bans increased, some Americans living abroad decided to return to the US. Many had intended to stay abroad but cut their plans short because of the pandemic. Taking into account these unique circumstances, the IRS decided to adjust the requirements to qualify for the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion.
Under the revised rules, if you reasonably expected to meet the eligibility requirements of the FEIE during 2019 or 2020 but failed to do so because of the Coronavirus pandemic, you can still claim the tax exclusion. However, you must have left your country of residence within a specified date range. The date range is determined by when the period of adverse conditions began in different regions.
Therefore, you can still qualify for the FEIE if you left these regions after the dates below:
The period for this exception will end on July 15, 2020, unless the Treasury Department and IRS choose to extend it. This means that, if you left China between December 1, 2019 and July 15, 2020, you could still qualify as physically present or a bona fide residentso long as you expected to meet the requirements if not for the COVID-19 Emergency.
To determine the maximum available exclusion you can claim, youll need to prorate the FEIE amount based on the percentage of the year that you lived outside the US.
Heres how you would calculate the maximum FEIE exclusion for 2020 based on our example above:
